The Balanced Success 4

As Business Owners How Do We Define Success?

Often people will think about it being money right? Maybe $1 million, maybe $5 million, maybe $10 million that kind of thing. Well we recently asked this at our High Level Collective Mastermind and and it was interesting to see what our members were saying in reflection of success for themselves.

Success was very much congruent with their values and what they wanted in life: creating freedom, creating peace and creating happiness and really an overarching theme of a balanced success which I thought was great.

It reminded me of a breakfast meeting I had recently with Steven Dixon and Scott Bywater. Steven drew The Balanced Success 4 which divides your family, your business, yourself and your health in equal quarters just as you see below and having a balance between the four.

So if we talk about Family, your partner, your children, chances are they are what is most important to you in your life but often they get the scraps of your time. I’m probably not the only one who’s had their child come in to the office and I’ll reply with I’ll just be 15 minutes, or half an hour and then we’ll play ok but somewhere along the way the play doesn’t happen or it’s hours later. We often put that family time off but in reality we need to give it more focus and more priority.

With your Health, the way I look at it is, you’ve got one vehicle, like it or don’t ;), but you’re stuck in that vehicle for the rest of your life so you may as well service it, look after it, maintain it that kind of thing. My goal in my 40’s is to try and get fitter then I was in my 30’s.

With your Business, I’m don’t think I’m the only one that has given far too much time and focus in that quadrant. As business owners, often we love what we’re doing and it’s a game and it’s a thrill so it’s very very easy for us to spend a lot of time there and neglect the other 3 quadrants.

With the fourth quadrant Yourself, I asked our Collective Mastermind “who here doesn’t have anything fun that they are doing for themselves, who doesn’t have a hobby or an interest?” There was actually quite a few people who were really putting themselves last all the time.

So really think about these 4 Quadrants, Family, Health, Business & Yourself. What does the balance look like right now in your life? Are you achieving a balance? Or could achieving a balance make you happier and ultimately more successful? I’ll leave it with you. Let me know what your thoughts are in the comments below. Have a great day.
